 About ‘A’ Class Fitness

logo3021487_mdI am Anne and I have launched ‘A’ Class Fitness as my brand of exercise classes in the community.

I have 18 years of experience teaching exercise classes of different types to a diverse range of people with varying fitness levels and aims.  I have a particular interest in the mechanics of the body and I enjoy learning about how it works and what effects different exercise techniques have on it.  Over the years I have kept abreast of the various findings of  exercise science research by attending training courses, conventions and seminars and by subscribing to various industry publications. In the academic year 2005/2006, I completed the first year of a Degree in Exercise and Health at Loughborough.  A relocation and the birth of my 2nd child prevented me from completing the degree at that time but it is on my priority list of things to do in the next few years.DSC00896

‘A’ Class is more than just a class. ‘A’ Class reflects the level of commitment I have to delivering a results based workout to each person attending.  ‘A’ Class  reflects the skills I have developed in 17 years of delivering fitness classes.  ‘A’ Class reflects the knowledge I have accrued in 17 years of continued professional development.

If you have any questions or would like any further information about any of the exercise classes please  email me at anne@altrinchampilatesandfitness.com, via the ‘contact’ page or call me on 07740 927758

About Anne

Hello,  My name Anne Hodge. I have been teaching exercise classes since 1993 when I decided to make my hobby and my passion for fitness into a career.

I worked full time as a gym instructor in a large health club in Stockport whilst I studied  for my Exercise to Music Instructor qualifications. Then it was off on the ocean waves on-board the MS Southern-cross teaching various exercise classes to the passengers as well as giving seminars on back care and postural health.

On returning from my adventures, I settled down and had my eldest child whilst building up my skills portfolio. I qualified in the teaching of various types of exercise such as aquatic fitness classes, studio cycling and studio free weight training. By the time my son was four and started school, I was teaching anything from 30 to 40 exercise classes per week in various health clubs and leisure centres throughout south to central Manchester and North Cheshire.

DSC00926I discovered Pilates in the late 1990’s when it was in the press as the exercise form of choice to many of the celebrities in Hollywood. I did some research into what all the hype was about andfound that it was a more holistic form of exercise to the traditional toning and strengthening  exercises in common use at the time. Instead of isolating individual muscle groups, Pilates exercises were functional in that they used many muscle groups to stabilize the body. I was impressed by the results achieved by following a Pilates programme and by the calm nature of the class discipline.   When Micheal King launched his training programme for Pilates instructors in the UK, I was straight on board.  I qualified as a Pilates Matwork Instructor in 1999 and have been teaching Pilates classes within my rapporteur ever since.

DSC00836In more recent years my teaching has been a much more  part time  occupation, whilst I have had to relocate a couple of times with my husbands job and I have enjoyed becoming a mother for the 2nd and 3rd time. But no matter what else has been happening in my life, exercise and fitness has always been a part of it.

Due to being able to take my foot off the pedal a little in recent years, I have regained the passion for exercise and movement which started me on this journey all those years ago. I have also been able to assess and analyse the types of exercise that I feel are fundamental to my life and which I feel are the most beneficial to the population.  One of the exercise types at the top of my list is pilates.
